SARA WINGFIELD

Instructor

Sara Wingfield is ecstatic to be joining the Axis Dance Company this year. Sara has been dancing since age seven. She started dancing under Julie Henderson at Dance Etc. Growing up, she trained under Darla Toker, Rachel Norman, and Riley Risso Coker. Sara has trained in ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, modern, hip hop, pointe, clogging, tumbling and musical theatre. Her favorite part of dancing is the opportunity to
express emotions through dance. Sara’s goal is to provide a safe space for her students to leave their troubles at the door and pour their heart into their art.

Sara is graduating from SOSU with a bachelor's in criminal justice and a Minor in Dance. While at SOSU, she was member the Sparks Dance Team for four years where she served as Co-Captain and Captain.  During her college dance career, she was awarded Spark of the Year, Heart of the Sparks, Most Helpful, Dancer of the Year, and The Jill Jones Spencer Award. Sara also had many dance pieces that were awarded the Choreographers Award. She has plans to further her education with a MA in Dance from
Texas Tech University.

Sara has also participated in musicals with SOSU’s Theatre and OSF’s Theatre. She was an ensemble dancer in SOSU’s Production of Chicago, and in OSF’s production of Legally Blonde and Beauty and the Beast. Sara’s favorite role she has ever performed was in SOSU’s production of Oklahoma! where she played Dream Laurey and an ensemble dancer.

Outside of Durant, Sara was the Bonham High School Drill Team Director for four years. While she was there, she led the team to numerous wins at various competitions. All four years while Sara was atBonham, the team won State in either the Officer Division, Team Division, or both.

As a teacher, Sara believes that hard work and dedication are the key to success. She believes these things open the door for the student’s passion to blossom. She loves being able to help guide a student to achieve their goal. The greatest feeling as a teacher is watching your student grow in their art after putting in the effort.

Outside of working at Axis, Sara also teaches at OSF’s Academy for the Performing Arts. In addition to her dance career, she owns Emerald Records, a small business in Denison Texas. Sara also homeschools her beautiful daughter, Sadie. In Sara’s free time, you can find her playing with Sadie and their dogs, Fergus & Izze, reading, thrifting, or spending time with family.
