SARA WINGFIELD
Instructor
Sara is genuinely honored to be a part of Axis Dance Company, where she continues to share her love for movement and connection through dance. She began dancing at age 7 and has been fortunate to train in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and hip hop. Along the way, she’s learned from incredible teachers including Julie Henderson, Rachel Norman, and Darla Toker—mentors who helped shape both her technique and her passion.
Sara graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and a minor in Dance, followed by a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Theatre Pedagogy. During her time at SOSU, she was a proud member of the Sparks Dance Team for four years, serving as both Co-Captain and Captain. She’s grateful to have received awards such as Spark of the Year, Heart of the Sparks, Most Helpful, Dancer of the Year, and the Jill Jones Spencer Award, and to have had several of her choreographed pieces recognized for their creativity.
Her love for performance also led her to the stage, where she appeared in musicals with both SOSU Theatre and the Oklahoma Shakespeare Festival (OSF). Some of her favorite productions include Chicago, Legally Blonde, and Beauty and the Beast, with her most cherished role being Dream Laurey in Oklahoma!—a part that allowed her to blend storytelling with dance in a meaningful way.
Outside of college, Sara spent four years as the Director of the Bonham High School Drill Team, where she had the privilege of guiding her team and officer group to state titles each year. Her choreography has also been featured at professional sporting events including the OKC Comets, OKC Thunder, and aboard Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas.
As a teacher, Sara believes in the power of hard work, kindness, and creating a space where students feel safe to grow—not just as dancers, but as people. She holds close the saying, “Grace glides on blistered feet,” and strives to make every classroom a place of encouragement, creativity, and care.
When she’s not dancing, Sara enjoys spending time with her family, homeschooling her daughter Sadie, thrifting, reading, and playing dominos. She’s grateful for every opportunity to teach and learn, and looks forward to the journey ahead with Axis.
