MEAGAN JORGENSON

Owner, Axis Dance Co

Meagan Jorgenson is thrilled to be fulfilling her lifelong dream of owning a dance studio in her hometown, Durant, Oklahoma. Meagan began dancing at age five. After a year of tap class, she was hooked and added new disciplines to her class schedule each year. Soon, she was taking every discipline that was offered for her age and her love and passion for dance began to blossom.

Meagan grew up studying ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, modern, hip hop, pointe and musical theatre under the instruction of Jill Jones Spencer, Riley Risso Coker, Melisa Burkhart, Julie Henderson and Darla Toker. As a student, Meagan won various scholarships and awards at regional competitions and conventions. Upon graduating high school, Meagan had the opportunity to tour the U.S. with Joel Ruminer’s Dance Camps as an assistant to the choreographers.

Meagan eventually decided to further her dance education at the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment at Oklahoma City University where she received both dance and academic scholarships. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Dance Management. While at OCU, Meagan was a member of the American Spirit Dance Company. In addition to learning from some of the most talented and most recognized names in the dance industry, she also received a broader education in the arts management field and learned the importance of professionalism, dedication and a strong work ethic.

As a teacher, Meagan feels it is important that she not just teach dance steps and technique. Dance is truly so much more than just steps. She works hard to teach the value of teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking, commitment and good, hard work - and in the process pass on her love for dance, music and all art forms to her students.

Meagan's students have been accepted into dance and arts programs at universities such as Oklahoma City University and Liberty University as well as elite dance training programs such as Joffrey Ballet's Trainee Program.  Her students have won numerous scholarships at several dance conventions and competitions including, Hollywood Vibe, NUVO, Jump, Intrigue, Stage One, and more.  Her competitive students have won numerous awards at regional and national competitions including several first place trophies.  She has had teams win Division Championships for all three years the Company has competed.  She has also had teams selected for the Shootout Competition at Stage One Nationals, a competition to select the "Best of the Best," and has had teams win free entries to National competitions including a golden ticket pass to the World Dance Championships in New Jersey.

Even as a teacher, Meagan sees the importance of continuing her dance education by attending several dance conventions and intensives across the country each year.

When Meagan is not dancing, she is spending time with her husband Mike and her beautiful children, Joseph and Lula Kate.
